We all love the idea of spending time and effort working on a hand-made gift for someone special for Christmas but at the end of the day we either lack ideas, patience or both! I’m so excited to be jumping on board for a great month of Christmas gift ideas with the Christmas Gift Blog Hop. Make sure you “hop” around and see what some of the other bloggers have been up to. & make sure you come back for the next few weeks of the Christmas Gift Blog Hop! You’re going to die when you see what I made using moss.
A while back we thrifted a tray that I’ve been hoarding for just the right DIY. It had some nasty ripped green felt on the bottom so I scratched that off and instead of sanding I just used some left over Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan from this DIY. It went on like a dream and took 3 coats to fully cover the dark wood.
After it was all dry (…a whole week later because #momlife) I attempted my original plan which was to use some wrapping paper I found at Michaels that was white with gold polka dots. I finally managed to get it cut out and stuck on with Mod Podge but I wasn’t able to iron out the lumps and bumps that was forming from the wrapping paper. So instead of quitting I grabbed my trusty pot of gold sparkles and went ahead making a bit of a star burst pattern. I didn’t want to cover the whole tray with glitter but rather start from one corner and have it cascade out.
To seal the glitter I used some spray adhesive which worked quite well. Those sparkles ‘ain’t going anywhere.
I’m so happy I didn’t just stuff this whole project in the trash can and call it a day. It actually ended up looking really funky and definatly a piece that will bring me joy over the holiday season. Not all DIYs turn out and that’s A-OK. When in doubt, use glitter! I’ve legit been saying that for years.
