Goal-Planning & Day-Planners

As a kiddo I was so bummed whenever Christmas would come and go so quickly. As an adult though I look forward to the end of a year. It’s such a perfect time to take stock of all the blessings of the year and look ahead to where we want to be, both personally and professionally. A brand new planner sure makes the start of the new year even more exciting! Grab some fancy new pens (or pencils, like me) and start planning 2016!

Here are my picks for goal-planners & day-planners:

Intentional Planner

Intentional Life Planner by Abby Lawson

Everything Abby touches turns to gold. I’ve been a fan of hers ever since I started taking blogging seriously and read her book, Building A Framework. So if this is how Abby stays on track and keeps her eye on the prize, it’s gotta be good.

desire map planner

Desire Map Planner By Danielle LaPorte

Danielle LaPorte created the Desire Map, which is all about deciding how you want to feel and then doing what you’ve gotta do to feel that way. Then she created the planner, with her wisdom speckled on each page.

day designer

The Day Designer by Whitney English

I literally pack my Day Designer around with me wherever I go. I adore having a full page for each day where I can literally schedule every. thing. Plus a built in to do list… LOVE.

kate spade 2

Agenda by Kate Spade

Nothing like Kate Spade to glam up your day-to-day. Also love the quotes at the start of each month. Equal parts practical and sassy.

rifle

Planner by Rifle Paper Co.

A gorgeous planner. Thick, quality, paper and a lovely cover. Remember, you’re planner is gonna (hopefully) be with you 24/7… so it’s gotta be cute!

So which will it be? Which is your favourite planner? let me know in the comments!

Fall With My Family

I can’t even handle how quickly my little Oliver is growing up. He talks non-stop and has the sweetest little voice! He has a wicked sense of humour and obviously thinks his father and I are hilarious.

This fall we have devoted each weekend to getting out and doing as many fun family activities as we can. Fall is so beautiful where we live and it goes by way too quickly. We know we have a long, cold winter ahead so we are trying to get in as much outdoor stuff as we can before we have to hunker down inside and start doing more indoor-outings.

On Canadian Thanksgiving long-weekend we took Oliver to a local petting-farm and met some pals of ours and our kids ran around chasing donkeys, goats and chickens! Oliver loved the horses, obviously. He is obsessed with horses. When he’s been a good boy we all gather ’round the Chromecast and stream some horse jumping from Youtube. And when he’s really good we watch shetland pony races!

My husband and I even met up for lunch one day! It was quite a spur of the moment thing. My husband emailed me at work and asked if I wanted to meet at a nice bakery for lunch. We ordered our croissants and sat in the park chatting about our day without Oliver screaming and diverting our attention for one-another — it was lovely!

We have a few more things on our fall bucket list like going for a hike in the woods, head to a beach and go down to the valley and pick apple. But lets be honest…I kind of feel like not leaving the house this weekend.

Your Periscope Questions Answered

Your periscope Questions Answered by Stephanie from Mommyzoid

After my blog post a few weeks ago titled “Periscope Will Change The Way You Blog“, I received a bunch of emails and comments from readers asking some really great questions! I want to address those here and add a few tips I’ve learned over the last few weeks.

If you’re on Periscope and need some followers, leave your username in the comments and then go follow each other! Make sure to add me: @mommyzoid

Can ‘scoping too often hurt your brand? MOST DEFINITELY. I follow a few bloggers that when I see the alert pop up on my phone that says they are live, I drop what I’m doing and watch them. But there are others that when I see their name pop up I think, “AGAIN!?”. If you aren’t ‘scoping every other hour it becomes more special for your viewers to see you. They want to engage with you and interact with you live rather than catch you on the replay.

How can I save my videos so they don’t disappear after 24 hours? What makes Periscope unique is the ability to broadcast live and be candid. You can capture some really wonderful live interactions with viewers, too! But when you want your footage to last longer than 24 hours, what’s a blogger to do! Head to Katch.me and link your Periscope account by signing in with the Twitter account associated with your account. Katch.me will capture all those wonderful ‘scopes and keep them all in one spot where you can re-watch them, download and even embed them into your blog! In the Periscope app you also have the option to save your ‘scopes to your phone. That’s going to start taking up a lot of space though so I use the Katch.me solution instead.

What’s the best time to ‘scope? I began with broadcasts in the AM because that’s when I had the most free time, (plus I was all dressed and my hair and makeup was done for work!) but where I am on the east coast and in EST time, not many people are up and able to watch live so there wasn’t much interaction with viewers. Once I started doing them at night I noticed that there were triple the amount of viewers, more hearts and people were engaging and asking questions. You need to play around with the time and see what works for you!

What do I talk about? There’s a fabulous group on Periscope called #October Scopers which was started by Julie from Girl On The Move & Lauren from Working Mom Magic who all scope using the #OctoberScopers hashtag. Each day there is a different prompt which can help you come up with an idea of something to talk about and get those creative juices flowing. It’s a great opportunity to meet other Periscopers and start increasing those ever important hearts! <3

October Scopers on Periscope #OctoberScopers

If I could give just one piece of advice it would be this: from a branding perspective make your user name the title of your brand or company. Then in the section for your name make it your name @ your blog name. Here’s a screen capture of my Periscope profile page so you can see what I mean:

Comment below with any questions you want answered! This may just need to become a regular thing. Periscope is constantly evolving as it expands and grows

How Periscope Will Change The Way You Blog

How Periscope Will Change The Way You Blog

Periscope came on the scene and like that, we have just another social network to maintain!

But don’t be scared. Unlike trying to keep up with Facebook’s algorithms and try and beat the system, Periscope is more fun than it is work. And you know what, I think it’s here to stay. Just like brands weren’t sure Instagram was worth it to them, Periscope is turning out the same way. A few months ago when they launched I thought it seemed cool but was a little weary that it’d become one of those countless other social networks and I didn’t want to put in any effort in if it wasn’t going to be around too long.

So why is it so awesome you ask?

  1. I can broadcast LIVE from my living room. That might not seem like your idea of a good time but it is mine! A few years ago I was into making YouTube videos and was dead set on becoming a beauty guru but what stopped me (other than my lack of beauty skills/money to spend on make up and clothes) was the editing of videos for YouTube. I don’t know about you but when I am given the chance to edit something, it will NEVER be perfect. I think my perfectionism got in the way of just having fun. With Periscope you go live and there’s no chance to do a do-over, unless you delete your video (which auto-deletes after 24 hours anyway).
  2. I can connect with viewers/blog readers in a very intimate way. Sure, I share some personal stuff on my blog but being able to SHOW you my life is so super personal. I’ve been able to get to know some of my favorite bloggers on Periscope and it’s so cool to get a sneak peak into their lives. You feel apart of some super elite club. I’ve noticed brands are doing product reveals, celebrity’s are doing Q&As and even last night I watched a parade in Disney World. It’s a very different way to connect with viewers/readers and it’s really catching on quickly!
  3. Blog posts take TIME but Periscope broadcasts are QUICK! If you have a topic in mind, write down a few points you plan to hit on, hit record and you’re good to go! Viewers will ask questions — acknowledge them! Unless they are creeps in which case just block them.
  4. No matter your niche, it’s a great way to show your work. If you’re a food blogger it’s a perfect platform to show how to cook something (hello, cooking show!!!) or do a grocery haul. If you are a DIYer you can do reveals, show your work in progress or do a home tour!
  5. Periscope compliments my blog posts really well. So once you’ve finished a blog post, hop on Periscope and give a little peek at the post. JUST A PEEK. If you give it all away they have nothing to go see it for. Be creative with how you entice your viewers to hop over to the blog!

I think the most important thing to remember when using Periscope is to have fun! Be authentically you and it will shine through. Now go follow me and I’ll follow you back and we can be Periscope pals, sound good?

Stephanie @ Mommyzoid
